Social Venture Group (SVG), a Shanghai-based nonprofit philanthropic advisory and advocacy organization, was founded in 2006 by a group of Chinese and American young professionals. As a donor driven organization, our bilingual team crafts and executes giving strategies for Fortune 500 companies, multinationals, local and international philanthropists and foundations to encourage the growth of China’s emerging social sector.

Our database of grassroots nonprofits and social enterprises include organizations located in every province of Mainland China and covers every major issue from migrant children to arts initiatives. Over RMB 15.9 million (USD 2.6 million) has been donated to high impact grassroots charities because of SVG’s work, and we’re committed to a long-term goal of seeing millions benefit from the work of China’s grassroots social sector.

Our team, including our Board of Directors, has over 30 years of combined experience working in the Chinese social sector. In addition, our board members hail from America’s top business programs and currently hold positions at both Wharton and Beijing University’s Graduate School of Business.

China’s a World Power and…

The underdeveloped social sector coupled with the country’s size and population means millions continue to live in poverty. Agriculture workers watch their land erode because they have no access to modern farming technologies. Migrant children attend school in unheated, unregistered, overcrowded classrooms. Many disabled people face abuse and poverty without access to education and job opportunities.

We see a lot of great organizations working to meet these colossal needs but the problems are vast and local giving has not yet reached a level to support the demands. The government primarily supports large government-affiliated organizations but those at the grassroots level have a unique connection to the community.

Our Advantage

China’s rapid development multiplies the complexity of responsibly engaging in the social sector at its most critical juncture in Chinese history. SVG has the local staff with the experience, know- how, cultural sensitivity and thorough due diligence processes in place to successfully turn our donors’ good intentions into positive change for people in need.
